Privacy Policy
Last updated: May 27, 2026
RestMemo Photo ("we", "our", "the app") is an AI-powered photo restoration application available on iOS, iPadOS, and macOS. This Privacy Policy explains what data we collect, how we use it, and your rights. We follow the principle of data minimization — we collect the bare minimum needed to deliver the service.
1. Data we collect
- Photos you upload for restoration. When you tap "Restore", we send the selected photo(s) to our AI processing partner (Replicate, via xAI Grok Imagine Image) over a secure HTTPS connection. The photo is processed and the restored result is returned to your device.
- Anonymous device identifier. We generate a random UUID on first launch and store it in iCloud Key-Value Storage. It identifies your account across your Apple devices for credit synchronization. It is not linked to your name, email, or any personal identifier.
- Purchase records. When you buy credits or subscribe to RestMemo Cloud, Apple's StoreKit reports the transaction to us so we can credit your balance. We receive Apple's anonymous transaction ID — never your payment method, address, or full Apple ID.
- Cloud sync content (optional). If you subscribe to RestMemo Cloud ($0.99/month), your restored photos and original images are uploaded to our secure AWS S3 storage with server-side encryption (SSE-S3, AES-256). Otherwise, all photos stay on your device.
- Diagnostic logs (anonymous). If the app crashes, iOS may send us an anonymized crash report through Apple's standard mechanism. You can disable this in Settings → Privacy → Analytics.
2. What we do NOT collect
- Your name, email, phone number, or any other personal identifier.
- Your location.
- Your contacts or address book.
- Tracking data for advertising. We do not run ads. We do not sell data to third parties.
- The contents of your photo library beyond the photos you explicitly choose to restore.
3. How AI processing works
When you tap "Restore", the photo travels from your device to our backend (api.restmemo.app, hosted on Cloudflare Workers), which forwards it to Replicate (replicate.com) for inference by xAI's Grok Imagine Image model. The restored result is returned to your device and stored locally. Replicate's privacy policy applies to data while it is on their infrastructure — they state that input/output data is retained only as long as needed to run inference. We do not retain a copy of your photos on our backend after the restoration completes.
4. Storage and retention
- On-device: photos are stored in the app's sandboxed Documents folder. Deleted when you delete the corresponding gallery item or uninstall the app.
- iCloud backup: if you have iCloud Backup enabled, iOS may include the app's documents in your encrypted backup. This is governed by Apple's privacy policy.
- Cloud sync (optional): photos in our S3 bucket are deleted within 30 days of you cancelling the Cloud subscription or deleting the photo in-app.
5. Your rights
You may, at any time:
- Delete restored photos from the in-app gallery (long-press a tile → Delete).
- Cancel the RestMemo Cloud subscription via iOS Settings → Apple ID → Subscriptions.
- Uninstall the app, which removes all locally-stored data.
- Request deletion of cloud-stored data by emailing privacy@restmemo.app.
6. Children
RestMemo Photo is not directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children. If you believe a child has used the app and we hold their data, contact us and we will delete it.
7. Changes to this policy
If we materially change this policy, we will update the date at the top of this page and surface the change in the app at next launch. Continued use after a change indicates acceptance of the revised policy.
